Gustavo & Danielle {Rockford, IL – Oak Creek, WI – Kenosha, WI Wedding Photographer}

August 26th, 2011

In late 2007, I “met” Danielle online through a UW-Whitewater networking group on Xanga.  I had just graduated two years prior and she was just starting her freshman year at the same college (and the same dorm). In late 2007, I “met” Danielle online through a UW-Whitewater networking group on Xanga.  I had just graduated two years prior and she was just starting her freshman year at the same college (and the same dorm). For the next two years, we casually kept up with each other’s blogs. I remember reading all about Gustavo, her high school sweetheart. She knew he was the one from the get-go. Around the time they got engaged, I became more serious about my photography and was moving in the direction of potentially starting a business. Danielle had followed my progress, which I shared on my blog, and sometime after they got engaged, she asked if I would be willing to photograph their wedding.  My first, “real” wedding on the books. They were the first to ask – and ever since – they have been my BIGGEST supporters.

So yes, I was a little sentimental about this wedding, and I may have cried more than once.  It was surreal showing up to the church – we had talked about this day for only four years. Never in a million years would I have guessed four years ago, that I would be shooting this gal’s wedding. Okay, where are the tissues?

Love & Laughter {Rockford, IL Family Photographer}

August 25th, 2011

I couldn’t think of a better title to sum up Anne & her family’s session this past weekend. She & Adam clearly get so much joy out spending time with their sweet little daughter. That little girl was seriously making me laugh the entire session – what a personality!

The Power of Pictures

A little while back, we had some really bad weather. If you live in the Rockford region, I’m sure you remember exactly what I’m talking about. One particular night we had to go to the basement because the weather was particularly bad and there was a threat of a tornado. I grabbed my son out of his bed, then I went back upstairs and grabbed my bible, my camera bag, and my laptop. Oh yes, family, faith, and photography… you can see what my priorities are!

Many of us hold onto those things dearly. I think some of us take them for granted. Recently I read an article about a girl who visited a special home for teen moms regularly to take pictures of their babies. These young moms did not own cameras, so this girl gave these moms so much more than snapshots of their babies. A simple thing, like a photo album of your kids growing up, can mean so much. Similarly, for some families, a professional photo shoot might mean so much more that it would to anyone else. It could be a family about to lose their father to a terminal illness. It could be a single mom who has sacrificed everything for her kids. It could be a family who doesn’t have much, yet gives everything they have to help others, even if it’s their time.

I’ve been planning on giving away a photo session when my Facebook page hit 750 likes, and then again when it hit 1000. Well today it hit 750 likes and instead of hosting a contest (like I sometimes do) or holding a random drawing, I want to do something different. I would like for my “fans” to nominate one special person or family that they believe would overwhelmingly appreciate or benefit from a professional portrait session with me. If you know someone like this, I would love for you to sit down for a few minutes and compose a brief essay on why this person or family deserves to be treated to a portrait session.

I will be reading all of your nominations, and with the help of my good friend and photographer Heather, I will carefully select one. This person or family will not only receive a free session, but I will also gift them with a box of 4x6s of all the photos from their session, and a print credit of $250.

In addition, I will be awarding the person who submits the chosen family/individual’s story a $50 gift certificate.

Please email your nominations to me by Labor Day, September 5th.  Please send them to Kimberly.Neyer.Photography@Gmail.com with the subject line “Giveaway Nomination”

The Gauthier Family – County Fair Fun {Rockford, IL – Pecatonica, IL Family Photographer}

August 19th, 2011

Faith and I have been talking about doing her family pictures for a while, and I’m so glad we finally did. She went for my idea of doing them at the County Fair this week, and I’m thrilled she did, because they turned out so FUN!

The Cutler Family – Expecting #3 {Rockford, IL Maternity & Family Photographer}

August 19th, 2011

This week I got to photograph Traci and her beautiful family. What a gorgeous pregnant mama, she is! Her cute little guys will soon be welcoming a baby sister. They were so funny during the session: the eldest exclaiming “I want to wiggle!” (I’ve never met a little boy who didn’t.) Traci was just taking [...]

Traci was just taking everything in stride and smiling despite the swarm of mosquitoes. This baby girl is so blessed to be joining such a good family!

Rebekah, Class of 2012 {Rockford, IL Senior Portrait Photographer}

August 18th, 2011

If there was a prize for the most enthusiastic senior, I’m pretty sure Rebekah would win. She was so pumped for our session and she was a blast to work with. It was so easy to get a genuine smile out of her. Rebekah reminds me of an old Hollywood starlet – I think it’s [...]

Makeup done by IRO Custom Cosmetics. (And to show you how awesome they are at what they do, I did zero skin smoothing on these!)

This is a quilt that Rebekah’s grandmother handmade for her – it’s gorgeous!

Rebekah is a talented softball player, so we did some of her pictures at the diamond where she plays.

This week I got to travel to my hometown of Elkhorn, WI for a family session. I had so much fun with the Hill family, who was enjoying a family vacation/reunion on the lake. I think they set the record for the biggest family portrait that I have done so far (though the record is [...]

This week I got to travel to my hometown of Elkhorn, WI for a family session. I had so much fun with the Hill family, who was enjoying a family vacation/reunion on the lake. I think they set the record for the biggest family portrait that I have done so far (though the record is soon to be broken in a few weeks by an even larger family). For the group portrait, I ended up combining three separate images to make sure everyone was looking and smiling (and I had taken about 40… whatever it takes!)

Her tattoo reads “regret nothing” – you have to look at it upside down and then flip again to see it :)
