Steph is a good friend of my friend Heather Wilson. Heather was supposed to photograph her wedding, but asked me to do it when she found out she was expecting twins and due just a month after Steph’s wedding date! So in early September, I made the trip down to the small town of Smithfield. There is a long, vast expanse of woods and hills between the tiny town and Rockford. I felt like I had left Illinois! Once I arrived, I planned on getting some lunch before going to the church, only there were no restaurants. And this is how welcoming Steph and her family are: after laughing about the lack of eateries in their small town, they brought me into their home and fed me lunch! I got to spend an hour just getting to know Steph, her family and wedding party. It was a unique opportunity and I enjoyed spending that time with them.

Dan & Laura’s September wedding was so gorgeous – but what was even more evident, was how tight knit their family was. It was so awesome to see a couple so clearly dedicated to not just each other, but to their kids and their families. It made for such a fun and warm atmosphere! Laura [...]

Laura also put so much work into all the little details, and it showed! Congratulations, again, you two – I hope you are enjoying newlywed life! Thanks for letting me be a part of your special day!

John & Callie {Rockford, IL – Chicago, IL Engagement Photographer}

October 18th, 2011

John loves America, Chicago, football & Callie, and not in that order Ok, I’m sure he loves other things, too, but those were pretty evident. Callie is a gorgeous gal who is from my hometown. She is also a football fan. The funny thing is they cheer for rival teams, and we rescheduled their engagement [...]

She is also a football fan. The funny thing is they cheer for rival teams, and we rescheduled their engagement session when it ended up being on game day. Oops! They are a cute couple and I am super thrilled to be photographing their wedding next summer! We had a great time walking around the city of Chicago for their engagement session.

I did this session in late August – a little late to blog them – but maybe now that temps are cooling, you’ll enjoy seeing something a little summery!

Scott & Katelyn {Rockford, IL Engagement Photographer}

October 7th, 2011

Scott and Katelyn go to my alma mater, so they are automatically cool in my book! Well that and they are clearly in love and so cute together. Katelyn kind of looks like Natalie from the Dixie Chicks, I think… I told her so, and then I accidentally called her Natalie two seconds later. I’m [...]

Then during the elevator shot, someone downstairs pushed the call button. I had to awkwardly wait for them while they went down and back up seven floors. I am still laughing thinking about these moments… Scott & Katelyn, congratulations and promise me you’ll hang these on the walls until you’re 80 so you’ll never forget how fun it is to be newly engaged :)

The Larson Family {Rockford, IL – Beloit, WI Family Photographer}

October 5th, 2011

I wish I lived a little closer to Beckman Mill. It is such a great setting for family pictures! It’s a historical setting with unique buildings, water, bridges, a dam, lots of trees, etc. Terri had mentioned in an email when we first starting talking about her family pictures that she wanted a location with [...]

It’s a historical setting with unique buildings, water, bridges, a dam, lots of trees, etc. Terri had mentioned in an email when we first starting talking about her family pictures that she wanted a location with a bridge or something similar, and instantly I thought of Beckman Mill. It’s gorgeous! But not as gorgeous as her family, of course. :)

I call this one (below) “the end of the session.” :)

Macktown served as the perfect location for this family session. We ended up having some pretty gorgeous weather, too. When we were on the river’s edge, the sun was setting through a thin spread of clouds, which created the most beautiful warm light!

Mister Xander (I always like to call newborn boys “Mister” because they look like little old men to me) is the adorable son of one of my husband’s groomsmen in our wedding. He was 2 weeks old on the day of his session – and awake for a good portion – but oh so sleepy [...]

Hannah & Patrick {Rockford, IL – Milwaukee, WI Engagement Photographer}

Hannah & Patrick live in the cutest little community north of Milwaukee – it has quaint little storefronts, pretty houses and brick sidewalks… and it looks like it could be the perfect setting for a romantic comedy. Let’s just cast Hannah and Patrick for this movie right off the bat, because not only do they have awesome chemistry together, but they seriously know how to work the camera! I can’t wait for their wedding next summer!
