My husband and I are both the oldest child in our families. We also happened to be the first to get married and the first to have kids among our siblings. I grew up with a lot of cousins, so I could not wait for my kids to have cousins, too! Well, it finally happened, and amazingly enough, my sister and my husband’s brother each became first time parents within two days of one another.
Little Anna was born first. I went to go visit her at the hospital when she was a day old to meet her for the first time and take some pictures of her. Literally, as I was walking into the hospital, I got the call from my mom that my sister was in labor in North Carolina! So much excitement! If only I could be in two places at once!
I got home from visiting Anna at the hospital and immediately booked a plane ticket for Christmas day, assuming my second niece would be born at any time. The next day, my sister delivered Sydney, just two days after Anna was born!
So, after celebrating with my family on Christmas Eve, I hopped on a plane Christmas morning to meet Sydney. I teared up when I saw my sister for the first time! I had not seen her since her baby shower, and here she was with her very own child… it didn’t seem real.
We had a pretty low key weekend and waited until Sunday afternoon to do Sydney’s pictures. Since I couldn’t pack all my gear in my carry on luggage (ha!), we kept it simple with a lifestyle vibe. Here are a handful of my favorites:
After I just barely made it back to the midwest (my trip home deserves its own blog post, truly) I got to photograph Anna in my studio on New Year’s Day. She was wide awake and spunky! Don’t let the last shot fool you, her eyes were shut for all of 5 seconds, tops.
I’m so excited to be an aunt for the first time! I can’t believe that my two nieces are only two days apart. I’m very happy that I get to see Anna a couple times a week, since she lives so close. I wish I could see Sydney more: at least we do get to Facetime with her!
