I’ll admit, this session has been one of my favorites. First of all – I am in love with shooting downtown Rockford. It has so much character and there are so many choices for backgrounds and lighting. Aside from that fact, these sisters are dressed up so cute, I was a little jealous of their urban style. They were great models – I really hope I have the chance to work with them again!

This morning my son, Micah, got to test out the new studio. I’m not going to lie, marshmallow bribes were involved (hey if it works, right?) Over the past few weeks, I gutted out our spare room and my husband helped me build a small studio that I will use for “Watch Me Grow Mini Sessions.” It is the perfect size for the 2 and under set. Its simplicity puts all the attention on the subject, and I love the organic, natural look of an unlit white wall.
This little man is the reason I got serious about photography. Every day, I am so grateful that I am able to capture who he is right now. Everyone tells me how fast they grow up, and I hope that by taking a lot of pictures of him, I’ll be able to remember all the little details of his 2-year-old self. He’s my best little buddy! (He’s currently driving his Hot Wheels cars by my feet…)

This past Saturday, after I wrapped up a senior portrait session, I hit the road with my son to visit family out in Ohio. We just got home very late last night. On the way back from Cincinnati yesterday, we stopped near Toledo to visit some friends of mine. Sarah is my “internet friend” – as our husbands joke – we met online through blogging years back and have met up on a few occasions. It was fun to catch up again with her and her family for a few hours. We swung by a park for a super quick mini family session, as in 15 minutes or less. It was about 100 degrees outside! Part of that time was spent by my husband and hers trying to break down some dead branches that were “ruining” by perfect archway in the last shot.

The mother of these beautiful twin girls and their baby sister is a good friend of mine. The story behind these matching dresses is great. Her baby received her dress as a gift from a family member. Lindsay looked for coordinating dresses for months. A week before this shoot, she happened to find the exact same dresses in her girls’ size on clearance. There were only two left and she got them for a steal. As a mom, I can really appreciate stories like that!

Today was our second and final day of mini sessions for Valentines Day. I love these mini session marathons! We had a wide range of ages from 10 months to 15 years. It’s always fun to see what everyone is going to wear and this week we saw a lot of red shirts, which really pop on the gray backdrop.
I’m really looking forward to our Facebook contest this week. I went through all the images our participants picked out and selected one favorite from each group. Heather Wilson, Tara (Three Little Bows) & myself will all upload these 9 pics to our Facebook pages for the contest, which means our fans can vote up to three times for each picture by visiting each of our pages! We’ll leave the contest open for one week and then we’ll tally up all the “likes” for each photo on all three pages. Whoever has the most “likes” will get a free 11×13 of any pose from their mini session. So if you are one of our mini session participants, make sure you get as many of your friends as you can to come to all three pages and vote for your picture!

I had a lot of fun this weekend at our mini session event. Now I’m already looking forward to next Saturday when we host a second round of minis! Heather and I work really well as a team. It was kind of funny how we ended up just jumping into whatever role was needed at the time. We switched between shooting, editing, burning CDs and all the other little things that make up an event like this. It was fun!
It was also great that we had our friend Tara there as well. Tara owns Three Little Bows, which makes adorable little flowers, headbands and hats like the ones these cuties are wearing…
