The Schulze Family {Forest Park, IL Family Photographer}

June 25th, 2011

Forest Park? Yep, I travel! If I can drive there and back on one tank of gas, I’ll go. There is something exciting about going to a new city, site unseen, and having to come up with locations on the fly. A year ago, even, I would have been nervous, but I’m at the point [...]

Forest Park? Yep, I travel! If I can drive there and back on one tank of gas, I’ll go. There is something exciting about going to a new city, site unseen, and having to come up with locations on the fly. A year ago, even, I would have been nervous, but I’m at the point now where I feel confident I can find a good spot and good light just about anywhere. I always tell people, I don’t need a whole field of gorgeous scenery, I only need about 8 or 9 feet of it.

This family was just about to move out of state, so it’s a good thing that the forecast for thunderstorms held off until I was driving home – there would have been no time to reschedule! Their 3-month-old baby girl was just the cutest thing, ever! And I loved her white embroidered dress!

1 Month Old {Poplar Grove, IL Newborn Photographer}

June 14th, 2011

On Sunday afternoon I went to baby Eden’s house to take her newborn portraits. I just love her blue eyes! Her big sisters were a big help during the session, and it was cute to see how much they are enjoying their new baby sister.  Enjoy these previews!

Harley’s mom and I went to high school together back in the day. I got to photograph her family last fall and I am really excited to shoot her wedding in a few weeks. Harley turned 1 in March (yes, I am behind on blogging!) She came over for a studio session and we did [...]

9 Months Old! {Rockford, IL Baby Photographer}

I have been getting a little behind on the blog lately. I think it’s so easy to just add photos to Facebook and call it a day, but I do love the presentation of photos on the blog: the quality is a lot better. I have a couple sessions I’ll be adding to the blog over the next few days.

A few weeks ago, I took pictures of baby Kaiya, whose mommy won my Facebook contest several months ago. I did these in my home studio and I got to try out my newest shade of seamless paper. I love the gray! We also did some mommy-daughter portraits in black and white, which I think are gorgeous!

Be Mine Valentine Mini Session Event, Day 2 {Rockford, IL Childrens Photographer}

February 5th, 2011

Today was our second and final day of mini sessions for Valentines Day. I love these mini session marathons! We had a wide range of ages from 10 months to 15 years. It’s always fun to see what everyone is going to wear and this week we saw a lot of red shirts, which really [...]

Today was our second and final day of mini sessions for Valentines Day. I love these mini session marathons! We had a wide range of ages from 10 months to 15 years. It’s always fun to see what everyone is going to wear and this week we saw a lot of red shirts, which really pop on the gray backdrop.

I’m really looking forward to our Facebook contest this week. I went through all the images our participants picked out and selected one favorite from each group. Heather Wilson, Tara (Three Little Bows) & myself will all upload these 9 pics to our Facebook pages for the contest, which means our fans can vote up to three times for each picture by visiting each of our pages! We’ll leave the contest open for one week and then we’ll tally up all the “likes” for each photo on all three pages. Whoever has the most “likes” will get a free 11×13 of any pose from their mini session. So if you are one of our mini session participants, make sure you get as many of your friends as you can to come to all three pages and vote for your picture!

Here are today’s favorites!

I had a lot of fun this weekend at our mini session event. Now I’m already looking forward to next Saturday when we host a second round of minis!  Heather and I work really well as a team. It was kind of funny how we ended up just jumping into whatever role was needed at the time. We switched between shooting, editing, burning CDs and all the other little things that make up an event like this. It was fun!

It was also great that we had our friend Tara there as well. Tara owns Three Little Bows, which makes adorable little flowers, headbands and hats like the ones these cuties are wearing…

If you want to jump in on the fun this next weekend, just click the logo below!

Molly Joy, 4 Days Old {Lake Geneva, WI Newborn Photographer}

January 26th, 2011

I went to college with Ben, so it was pretty cool to be able to see his family now that it has grown to 5 (in less than 5 years, no less!).  His youngest was just born and her name is Molly Joy. Isn’t that the cutest name? It fits because she is such a [...]

She was not interested in sleeping, so I went back the next day to try to get some of those sweet sleepy poses. The top left photo is what I got. Ha! (Is it just me, or did she grow overnight?) She was so alert and was watching me intently (or eating). I am not complaining… I love newborn eyes, too! And aren’t her little yawns the cutest as well?

Recently I decided I would really like to add more newborns to my portfolio and learn the art of posing a newborn. (Let me tell you, it is difficult!) I enlisted the help of another wonderfully talented photographer and friend, Heather Wilson and then spread the word that I was looking for a cute model to practice on. I got a great response and pretty soon I got an email about a baby boy who was born on December 29th. His name his Salvador, or “Sal,” and his mom was gracious enough to allow us to come to her home and do a practice session. It took four hours!! But we got some beautiful shots and I am quite happy with the results. I am looking forward to using some of the posing methods that I learned at my next practice session, which will happen fairly soon (mom is still pregnant).

I was excited to use the hat in the photo above because it’s one I made especially just for this session.

I really love how this perspective shows how small he is…

This one is probably my favorite expression. He looks like he is having a funny dream!
